Deformation behavior of b-titanium alloy (Ti-15V-3Cr-3Sn-3Al) at high temperatures

Ogawa Kinya

Abstract:The compressive strength of b-Titanium alloy (15V-3Cr-3Sn-3Al) was investigated in the temperature range from 293 K to 973 K and at strain rates from 1.7x10-4 S-1 to 5.6x10-2 S-1. The strength generally decreased with a rise in temperature, but at certain temperatures it increased due to the aging effect which proceeds much more rapidly during deformation than the isothermal aging. There existed the temperature range where the strength actually is independent of temperature and slightly decreases with an increase in strain rate. Portvin le Chaterie effect was observed in this temperature range. Thermally activated strain rate analysis gives plausible explanation of the experimental results.
