Fatigue Properties of TiAl Intermetallic Compounds and Dependences of the Microstrusture

Shimodaira Masuo; Yamaguchi Koji

Abstract:TiAl intermetallic compounds with duplex microstructures were subjected to axial strain controlled fatigue tests at room temperature and 800 degree.
(1)Fatigue lives of relatively ductile TiAl were predicted by Manson Coffin equation using tensile ductility and slope of 0.5.
(2)The fatigue strength at 103 cycles was correlated with the cyclic 0.2% proof stress.
(3)The fatigue strength at 103 cycles was dependent on volume fraction of the g phases.

Key Words:TiAl, fatigue, microstructure, elevated temperature
